The United
States’ Culture
The
United States is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. It
can be proved from there are so many language that spoken in the U.S. The
United States of America also has its
own unique social and cultural characteristics such as dialect, music, arts, social habits, cuisine, and folklore. The United States of America is an
ethnically and diverse country as a
result of large scale migration from many ethnically and different countries in
the world.
More
than 300 languages are spoken in the United States. It means that almost every language in the
world are spoken in U.S, they only used English for business and to entertain. Languages
brought to the U.S by colonists or immigrants from Europe, Asia, or other parts
of the world. United States doesn’t have an official language, but the most
commonly used language is English and we have known nowadays as American
English. Spanish is the second
most common language in the country. The United States holds the world's fifth
largest Spanish speaking population.
German
is also the most spoken in the U.S. Russian is also
spoken by immigrant populations. Hawaiian is an
official language along with English. English, Spanish, French, German and
other Native American languages, all other languages are usually learned from
immigrant ancestors that came after the time of independence or learned through
some form of education.
For
the Arts, America becomes the leader of mass media production. As we can see know
the center of a film production are in Hollywood and California. Besides that,
Music in the U.S. is diverse many styles. American music styles and influences
such as rock and roll, jazz, rock, techno, country, hip-hop, rap and music based on them can be heard all over
the world.
The
cuisine of the United States is extremely diverse, Traditional American cuisine
uses ingredients such as turkey, white-tailed deer venison, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, squash, and maple syrup. Recent
immigrants tend to eat food similar to their country of origin, and American versions of these cultural foods, such as American Chinese cuisine and Tex-Mex
(Mexican-American cuisine).
Mid-western
cuisine, potatoes, noodles, roasts, stews, cakes, and other pastries are the
most iconic ingredients in both cuisines. Dishes such as the hamburger, pot
roast, baked ham, and hot dogs are examples of American dishes derived from
German cuisine.
Different
regions of the United States have their own cuisine and styles of cooking. The
state of Louisiana for example, is known for its Cajun and Creole cooking. Cajun and Creole cooking are influenced by French, Acadian,
and Haitian cooking.
Americans generally prefer coffee to tea, and
more than half the adult population drinks at least one cup a day. Highly
sweetened soft drinks are popular. But hamburgers, fries, and doughnuts are considered American foods.
